Maxi Classic: 175km
REGISTRATIONS OPENING SOON
The 175km Gran Fondo course will take riders through the rolling hills of Bowral, Berrima, Exeter, Robertson and Kangaloon. Come prepared. During the ride around the beautiful Southern Highlands riders will face a variety of rolling hills, short steep climbs, and beautiful descents.
175km with 2097m ascent : Clip your feet in and get ready for a course which will challenge even the fittest of the bunch.
Again starting on the historic main street of Bowral, we head out to stunning Centennial Road before turning left onto the Old Hume Highway.
Riders will head past Bendooley Estate, and turn right onto Greenhills Road for a match up with a little leg burner: Mt Misery….aptly named!
At this point we are on route to Wombeyan Caves road where we, as in previous years, go out and back, a relatively fast stretch with limited elevation.
At the end of Wombeyan Caves Road, riders will head right and back to Bowral, and as we turn left onto Centennial Road riders should be preparing for the first big climb, Oxley Hill, our official Bowral Classic Oxley Hill KOM/QOM. Hopefully you are feeling good at this point as the climb is not to be underestimated!
It’s only a mere 1.2km in distance, but at around 11% on average gradient, a real test. We reckon this hill will help break up the pelotons and will be a super test for all riders. Click here for Strava link.
After you hit the rise of Oxley Hill you will follow Oxley Road all the way to the historic township of Berrima, your first of the many new towns the course will pass through this year.
From Berrima you head out to Moss Vale, and turn right to stunning Exeter. Here you will see the most striking scenery in the Southern Highlands.
We head through to Bundanoon and ride through another historic town, before we make the turn to the beautiful Fitzroy Falls area. Fitzroy Falls has everything, rolling green hills, world class real estate, and water and views back to Sydney – it’s a stunning part of Australia. Just for good measure you will encounter a few mild bumps along the way enroute to Robertson.
At Robertson we then turn left to Kangaloon and enjoy some stunning English style countryside and some steep descents, so take care. We are now finally on our way back to Bowral and enroute to Range Road where there’s one little climb left. It’s the Range Road Bomb and our last little push before we get to the 175km timing mat. You have done it….beer time!
All riders take note – the first Rest Stop is not till ~81km. Once there, time is ‘off’ as riders pass through Moss Vale. Roughly 4km later, time will be back on as riders begin the Bundanoon Loop. At the Bundanoon Hotel there will be water and banana Rest Stop 2 (~99km). More information will be released in the rider guide book.
Please note that the course is subject to change in 2019.
